Charlevoix is named after Father Pierre Francis Xavier de Charlevoix.
A Jesuit explorer he came here in search of a Pacific Ocean passage
from 1720 to 1722. The village was incorparated in 1879 and became a city in 1905.
The history of man settling this area dates back to 1,000 BC
and is still one of the prettiest ports on the lakes.
