Slip Sinkers Slip Sinker Rigs
Slip Sinker

A slip sinker rig is well suited when still fishing the bottom for light biting fish such as walleyes. Once they take in the bait they can pull the line through the sinker eye not feeling any resistance which would cause them to spit out the bait.

This set up can be used with a variety of live bait. I use a single hook on a 18" leader and a floating bead in front of the hook for fishing minnows or leeches. A floating jig will also work very well for this. When using crawlers I tie on a second hook about 3" behind the first and using a syringe I pump the crawler with air to keep it just off the bottom. Keep the bail open on your reel and if it's not in my hand I slide a loop of line through a rubber band on my rod to keep the line from spooling out. The line will slide through the rubber band with the slightest force. You can use this rig with a very slow drift or cast it out and move it around slowly but it's best use is still fishing. In rocky bottoms a slinky sinker will work and is less likely to get hung up.
