Lake Gogebic I found to be one of the snowmobile friendliest places in the state. We had a fine diner at the Fisherman last night with our neighbors we met from Minnesota. It's one of many great eateries accessible around the lake. Gas was easy to get to and even snowmobile parts. I replace my tail light lens and a few parts for my modular helmet no problem. Tuesday morning we gassed up and had a nice breakfast across the street at the Northshore Restaurant before heading out. It was explore da Porkies day, Steve and Fred Jr. never had.

Up trail one through White Pine and Silver City the first stop was Lake Of The Clouds Overlook. Again it was snowing so hard it was tough to get any good shot but I took one for their scrape book any way. Next stop was Carp Lake Mine, one of my favorite spots to get out of the wind and cold. The creek runs underground and the mine has a large pool of water behind a small concrete wier. The temp stays just above freezing even in the sub-zero weather today. It's a strange place in the winter with little Ice Stalagmites growing.

Leaving the trolls den, as I like to call it, we headed south on #11, South Boundary Road. The trail was hard packed but off on the two tracks mounds of fresh powder taunted you to try. It was just to irresistible! We headed up the access road to Summit Peak with 5 foot moguls spaced out for a double jump. The good news was they were filled in with 5 plus feet of drift snow! Power up the first hill and you would splash down in a wave of powder up to your chest and back up again for the next wave. It reminded me of playing in the boat on a 6 foot rolling swell. At this point it's all in the way you lean and shift your weight around, carbides and skis could be locked straight.
