Alcona Dam - Au Sable River - Alcona County - Glennie MI.
Alcona Dam Pond, established in 1924, is a 975 acre impounded reach of the Au Sable River about three miles west of the town of Glennie Michigan. The dam has a current head of 39 feet and can hold in storage 5,000 acre-feet of water.
Upon creation of Alcona Dam Pond, early recommendations by fish managers centered on walleye stockings. Brown and rainbow trout were known to inhabit this reach of river, along with various sucker species, northern pike, rock bass, yellow perch, and an abundance of minnow species. Whitefish even migrated into this reach of river in the late summer. Alcona County maintains a camping park on both the east and west side of Alcona pond.
