During the spring and early summer the DNR uses
an electric trap to control the Lamprey in the river.
The lampery attaches itself to a fish much like a leech
would and will eventually kill its host. The traps are taken out
around the first or second week in July. Until then you must
portage your canoe over a short trail, shown left, and back into the river.
The nice loading docks make this a very easy task.
The trap shown left is not electric but a long funnel
leads them into a trap. You may pass a few of these on
this part of the river.
