Constructed in 1862 by the order of President Lincoln, Whitefish Point is the oldest active light on Lake Superior. The Keepers Quarters attached to the light has been fully restored and is open for tours from May 1st through October 31st 7 days per week from 10am to 6 pm.
Also on site is the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museun. The museum is the only one of its kind dedicated to the dangers of maritime transportation on the Great Lakes. The bell of the most famous wreck, the Edmund Fitzgerald is displayed in the museum as a memorial to her lost crew.
