We pulled into Cedar Ridge Resort just before dusk and I settled into a nice, hot, tub before diner. Watching the HD satellite TV over the fireplace in our unit afterward wasn't bad either. Heated tile floors, a full kitchen, three bed rooms and two baths. You can't ask for much more on the trail! It stayed warm all night and the next morning the lake was slush. Trail 43 was thin coming in and by now it was most likely mud! Some of the guests we meet were going to trailer just north of Seney. We know the snow was good there, but we had no trailers, or trucks for that matter. We were stuck for the day. The good news? Things were going to change, and Fast!
If you did have to be stuck for a day, we were in the right spot. Lounging around the pool, shooting a bit of stick, or just laying back watching the TV's was fine with me for a day. With an on-site restaurant and lounge you really don't need much else. All day we kept hearing about this big storm coming in that night. High winds, heavy snow, and something the news guys made up called a rapid freeze warning. I thought some cold and snow, just what we need! Well, at 7pm it was 43 degrees with fog, by 8pm it was near 0 degrees with 50 mph winds. I never seen anything come in that quick! You could not see the porch roof pillars looking out the windows with the outdoor lights on. With gust recorded over 60 mph about 4am the power throughout the area went cold. At 5am, before all water pressure was gone, I was filling pans and boiling water for coffee on the gas stove. We all packed the night before so I started getting my gear on before it got cold. At 0 degrees with 50 mph winds that my not take long.
