Canoeing the Sturgeon

The river started to calm down and straighten out a bit as
we got to our half way point, lower White Road bridge. We stopped
for a breather on the bank just below the bridge. We ate a little
snack while we enjoyed the quiet and the warming sun. A Bald
Eagle could be seen hovering high above the valley keeping an
ever watchful eye over his hunting grounds.
With the rough stuff behind us we took our time
stopping at all the little islands or sandbars along the way.
We watched as some deer came to the river to drink as a muskrat
played in the current. The sun was staying with us and the wind
was not felt much in the seclusion of the valley floor. Life in the
fast lane was just a distant memory and I no longer heard phones ringing
in the back of my mind. God sure made a beautiful world for us
if we take the time to look.
Floating along I notice a few sore muscles from the first part of the trip.
For some strange reason it felt good, as if some new power was
entering my arms for future use. And for the first time this year
I was getting some color. Neila was really enjoying this part of the trip,
there was no need to paddle, the air was warm, the water clear
and cold, and only the sound of flowing water could be heard
over your thoughts.
