If you have been keeping up with my reports on a daily basis in the past week you can plainly see how ridiculous it is to try to depend on the forecast. Therefore, my future reports are going to be based solely on “trail conditions” and NOT weather reports. I will tell you what the weather is doing that day, but I will not try to tell you what the weather is “going” to do. All week, it didn’t matter what site you checked on or what news channel you watched for us they were all inaccurate every day. So please just check the weather on Weather.com, noaaweather.com, weatherunderground.com and for the radar go to ontarioweather.com because that is no different than what I do. I just got checked by someone about the weather forecast that I gave on my report. I don't like whent I get checked. I have always been honest and will tell you only what I know.
The trails are still holding up. It didn’t get below freezing last night and it won’t until tonight. But then again that is what I’m reading and they said it would last night. So, if it freezes good like they say tonight the trails should be good tomorrow morning too as long as you get up and get out early. If we get any sun tomorrow they will start busting through with the amount of traffic they potentially might see by late afternoon early evening.
South trail 8, south of the river mouth and down toward the Silver Creek is showing a lot of dirt and there is a bad spot between the bar and the bridge. Once you get up the hill it looks pretty good.
Trail 45 is also showing some dirty areas on corners and open spots but is still nice and flat. That is a popular trail so it will see more traffic than most.
Trail 8 to Pine Stump is going to be your best bet as you can find more snow depth in the woods and that trail is in our snow belt. You should be good all the way to Grand Marais. The Rainbow Lodge area is thin and they are closed this year.
I have a feeling that there are a lot of people here this weekend that have never been here before so everyone be careful and don’t be afraid to ask where to go or to ask for a map. There is always the potential of going from great trails to bad in a matter of minutes so watch your corners and hills. Have fun but be safe too.
