What a glorious morning it was gliding up the road to Craig Lake State Park. Everything was very still and sparkled in the waking sun. As we slowly worked our way in, tracks of all kinds crossed and followed the road. From the scratches of tiny field mice to the large stamp of a gray wolf pad the morning's story had been written across the snowy banks and icy streams to read along the way. After passing the parking area for Craig Lake we snaked our way down a narrow two track southwest toward trail 8. Some of the open areas had rows of drifts 5 to 8 foot high making the road about impossible to follow.

We stopped to check the GPS a few times to be sure we were on a road. At one point on the descent a large fallen tree blocked the road and we had to kick a little snow out to gain just enough clearance to get through. Winding back to trail 8 we headed west a couple miles and jumped on Hermen Road north to Indian Road and on up to trail 14 just east of L'Anse. We cruised east to some two tracks just before Mt. Arvon and south back to the resort. What a great two days up in the hills! I was impressed with all the sleds and don't think I've had that much fun on a sled in a few years. It really wears me out after a day of pushing the back country and we all were looking forward to dinner, a hot shower and a soft bed. Snow lucky we've been on this trip I thought as I melted into my pillow for the night.
