January 27, 2026 Above and Below
We had above average snowfall so far this season with below average temperatures this past week and through this week.
Last night brought some light Lake Effect snow in the Western Lower and Northern U.P. with more expected, about 3 to 8 inches.
With sup-zero overnight lowers the wet areas are frozen and the base is holding up well throughout the state.
There is some snow in the forecast with below average temps sticking around all week.
The temps will be in the -10 range at night with highs in the single digits to low teens this week so things will remain stiff.
Back roads are mostly all ice so be careful there.
All of the U.P. remains in good to very awesome shape this week with a strong base, colder temps and lots of fresh LE snow.
In the lower the base is a bit thinner but with plenty of snow for grooming it's good to very good.
Make sure you over dress warm this week as wind chills will be far below zero.
Also, watch for fallen tree limbs on the trail due to the high winds the past few days and STAY RIGHT!
Till next time, have fun, be safe and I'll see you on the trail. Dave G
