By noon this Tuesday the snow was piling up. With about a foot of fresh stuff, we often found some undisturbed two tracks to play on. Fred was having a blast on his new Renegade 800 and the new 600 Burt Lake Marine was kind enough to let us test had no trouble at all. It handled well in the deep stuff with plenty of power to thrill you on the way. Dean on his long track four stroke Yamaha, although a little heavy, had no trouble breaking trail with Fred. I parked my touring Cat and shot a few photos as we took turns playing on the two tracks and drifts.

The new snow continued to blanket the ground as we worked our way on and off trail back to Michigamme. They were calling for a foot of snow but by two that afternoon we had passed that mark. The snow grew heavier and the winds picked up causing white-outs in the open areas, engulfing everything in sight. Fred got hung up when he was sucked into a snow filled ditch where the track failed to reach bottom. Been there, done that. With a little help under the watchful eye of a local sled dog he was out jumping the drifts in no time. Further on as trail 8/15 heads north into a long wide straight stretch by Big Lake, there is a series of small hills. They have always been fun for the floating stomach effect. This time I find a helium head flying up on his far left side, MY SIDE! But for the grace of God and a lucky maneuver, he did not hit me head on. He did not even stop, probably embarrassed about sh--ing his pants! Are there really people that stupid? Are they on the same trail as us! I guess that's what trees are for.
