After the parade the crowing ceremonies were held on the steps
of city hall. The 1998 Bell of the Blizzard, shown left and
the new Winter Knight, shown right, both received their honors with pride
and applauds. And with the awards almost over it was time to head out.
Over in Sportsman's Park the obstacle course for
the Snow Shoe Follies. Two age groups allow all kids of all sizes
to compete for prizes. Dads bring the camera for some shots
sure to embarrass your kids later on in there life.
While in Sportsman's Park make sure you check out the Winter
Encampment. Frontier living in the 1700's, you can have it.
From here we would be heading over to the Snowmobile Club
where the drag races would soon be underway.
Back at Vincent's Yamaha a couple of snowmobiles
were being ready for us. Jack Vincent, one of my first sponsors
in East Jordan, has always offered a hand. I would be riding
a 1998 700 V-max SX. This was the sled Jack liked to ride and suggested
I give it a try. He said he didn't need all that power but it was nice
just to have it for bragging rights.
I say BULL, from the first sound of the tuned pipes
I knew I would have to touch it off at least once along
the way. After suiting up I headed south out of town a
few miles on the Jordan Valley connecter.
The girls, Neila and Sandy, followed behind as we bounced along
the connecting trail. This part of the trail was very
rough do to all the traffic to and from the clubhouse that
weekend. The sled felt good, stable and agile over the relentless
moguls as I hurried through the course. I had to fight the
urge to squeeze off the throttle but there would be better places than this
for that and we were headed to one of them.
